Abstract

Stage[ing] / Heighten / Informative / Ethics / Performance

Food is not only a source of energy for the human body but also about social, environmental, and economic impacts on society. It is determined by how people choose, process, and dispose of them. For ethical eaters, they prefer choosing sustainable food, which is informed where food comes from, how it is made, whether it is environmental-friendly, to ensure that their choice has a positive impact on society. Therefore, this research project focuses on how techniques of stage[ing] can inform people to eat ethically?

The inquiry has been developed through explorations into techniques of stage[ing], which include material [re]arrangement, reflection, framing, hanging, performing, light and shadow transformations. It aims to heighten people’s experience through the aspect of food and the process of eating.

This research project attempts to test three different contexts in three aspects of ethical eating: food source, food processing, and sustainable food. A sustainable farm cafe is designed to focus on informing people of food sources. The restaurant is telling people about food processing. The pop-up kiosk is intended to sell and promote the sustainable food. The purpose of these three contexts is to inform people how to make a positive impact on society by eating ethically.

So far, this research project has mainly focused on the food source, food processing, and promoting sustainable food. However, it lacks the details of the dispose of food and materials that be used. Therefore, the major project will further develop the method of disposing.
